Start with the correct period
Identify the genuine first date of need and the fiscal-year period it falls in. Keep that date consistent with the job, supporting business records, and filing plan. Different dates can bring different cap considerations; changing a date solely to fit a filing opportunity does not create a temporary need.
Check the official notice, not a running estimate
Use the USCIS cap page and current announcements to confirm the relevant period, receipt cutoffs, and any special instructions. DOL labor certification and USCIS cap availability are separate questions. A certified application does not reserve a visa number.
Build a plan that can handle uncertainty
Prepare wage and case documents early, review the standard labor-application window, and keep a domestic staffing plan. Do not budget on an assumed supplemental allocation or a promised arrival date. Ask what happens to the service fee and other expenses if the case cannot proceed.
